Professional Summary
KayLee Wangelin is a Licensed Master of Social Work who serves as a counselor at Visions Counseling & Education, bringing specialized focus to neurodivergence support, trauma-informed care, and addiction support. Having completed her MSW Internship with the clinic, KayLee's transition to her current role reflects her deep passion for the communities she advocates for—specifically adults, neurodivergent individuals, and the formerly incarcerated. Her clinical work is directly motivated by a desire to fill systemic gaps in care, particularly for individuals with developmental disabilities, by collaborating closely with interdisciplinary care teams. Operating from a foundation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing, KayLee maintains a strictly person-centered approach. She ensures client agency by meeting people exactly where they are and helping them build practical skills from a realistic starting point. Ultimately, KayLee is committed to strengths-based care that honors each individual's unique abilities, working to empower clients with the self-advocacy tools they need to amplify their voices and navigate life with dignity.
About KayLee
Outside of the clinic, KayLee relies on a close-knit support system of family, friends, co-workers, and her German Shepherd/Corgi mix, Roxie. Her weekends usually begin early with a quiet nature walk alongside Roxie, followed by long evenings playing fetch together. She finds genuine peace in tending to her yard and caring for her plants, a hands-on routine that helps her stay grounded. When she isn't focused on her personal goal of paying off her house, KayLee takes advantage of Idaho's natural landscape by escaping to local hot springs whenever she gets the chance.

📝 Words To Live By
“The secret of life is to put yourself in the right lighting. For some that’s a Broadway spotlight, for others, a lamp lit desk.” -Susan Cain
Early Life
KayLee grew up in the close-knit community of Nampa, Idaho, where she still feels at home today and enjoys spending time in the steadily growing downtown area. Her childhood was defined by a strong connection to her local roots and the outdoors, from spending hours with friends at the Nampa Rollerdrome to taking family camping trips. One of her favorite early memories is exploring the outdoors and riding four-wheelers with her dad out in the Owyhees.
However, her early life was also shaped by profound difficulty. Losing her mother at a young age taught KayLee firsthand about the enduring reality of grief and loss. This deeply personal experience fundamentally informs her clinical empathy today, giving her the insight needed to genuinely show up for clients as they navigate their own difficult losses. Years later, while working alongside a social worker, KayLee witnessed the tangible difference that compassionate advocacy makes for people in need. Inspired by that impact and guided by her own life experiences, she made the decision in 2020 to return to school for social work, knowing she had finally found the right path.
Education & Training
KayLee built her clinical foundation from the ground up in Idaho, earning her Associate of Arts in Social Work from the College of Western Idaho and her Bachelor of Social Work from Lewis-Clark State College before achieving her Master of Social Work from Idaho State University. However, her true preparation didn't just happen in the classroom. Before completing her master's, she worked in residential habilitation as a direct care staff member and a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional. This hands-on experience gave her a wide, deeply grounded perspective on the day-to-day realities her clients face.
She brought this real-world insight to her clinical practicum at Visions Counseling & Education, where she focused her efforts on supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. The rigor of her academic and professional journey reinforced a core belief that still drives her today: showing up when things are hard isn't just necessary—it is the very place where real growth happens.
"My Vision for the Treasure Valley is a community where every individual with a developmental disability has the tools, confidence, and support to live as independently as possible, participate fully in community life, and achieve their highest quality of life with dignity and purpose."
Visions Journey
Before stepping into her clinical role, KayLee built her professional resilience as a medical receptionist for five years at St. Luke's Health System, followed by demanding roles in residential habilitation as both a direct care staff member and a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional. This hands-on background prepared her to handle high-intensity situations with calm competence. More importantly, it gave her a highly realistic perspective on the daily lives of her clients and a deep understanding of their rights, making her a fiercely effective advocate today.
She completed her clinical practicum at Visions Counseling & Education, where she learned the absolute value of the therapeutic relationship. Through ongoing conversations with her supervisor and the wider team, KayLee quickly realized the clinic's morals, values, and mission perfectly aligned with her own. Operating at Visions allows KayLee to push back against systemic clinical standards that don't serve the human in front of her—specifically the expectation to be a "blank slate" counselor. She believes that an artificial fear of self-disclosure dehumanizes the clinician and creates an unnecessary barrier to connection. Instead, KayLee uses purposeful, authentic self-disclosure as a powerful tool to build genuine trust and show up as a real person for her clients.
Beyond Visions
KayLee’s drive for professional growth extends well into her future goals as she actively works toward full, independent licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). As part of her ongoing skill development, she is highly focused on expanding her understanding of sexual identity to better support clients navigating that area of their lives. Her ultimate career goal is to establish sexuality as a core clinical focus, providing targeted, affirming care for those who need it most. She chooses to do this demanding work at Visions because the clinic's morals, ethics, and values align perfectly with her own, giving her the authentic space she needs to serve the populations she is most passionate about. Outside the office, KayLee maintains a grounded approach to her personal life, continuously working on home improvement projects and moving steadily toward her goal of paying off her house.
