Professional Summary
Taylor Holmes is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Visions Counseling & Education whose tenure with the clinic began on November 15, 2021. Having served across multiple tiers of the organization—starting as a Community-Based Rehabilitation Services (CBRS) worker, stepping up as the CBRS department manager, and completing her clinical internship before earning her counseling license—Taylor brings a comprehensive understanding of community-based care to her practice. Her primary clinical focus centers on trauma-informed care and neurodivergent support, paired with secondary specializations in addiction support and recovery and adolescent development. Working closely with adolescents, justice-involved individuals, and developmentally disabled clients, Taylor utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Movie Therapy to help people navigate complex life challenges. Her specialization in addiction counseling is rooted in personal experiences watching how substance use impacts both those struggling and the loved ones who care for them. Determined to serve a population frequently misjudged and cast aside, she matches this commitment with dedicated advocacy for the rights and needs of developmentally disabled individuals, offering a voice for those navigating intricate societal barriers. In the therapy room, Taylor positions herself simply as a guide walking alongside her clients. While she offers ideas and alternative paths, she relies on the client to make the ultimate choice—prioritizing self-advocacy so individuals can build their own power and create a life they want to live.
About Taylor
Outside the clinic, Taylor relies on a stable, loving support system of family and friends whom she credits as vital to who she is today. She shares her home with Kami, a nine-year-old Australian Shepherd and Lab mix who loves being petted around the clock, going on car rides, chasing her ball, and tagging along on camping trips. An animal lover at heart, Taylor has also volunteered locally at Simply Cats in Boise. Her favorite weekends begin by sleeping in, making breakfast with coffee, and spending time crafting with friends and family or relaxing outside under the shade of a tree. She is an avid crochet artist who has crafted socks and stuffed animals, is currently working on an afghan, and hopes to make a cardigan for the winter. Alongside tending to her collection of houseplants, Taylor loves reading and participates in a coworker book club that strengthens friendships outside the office. When exploring the Treasure Valley's diverse culinary scene, she gravitates toward sushi and considers YoiTomo the best spot in town. Guided by the belief that vulnerability creates community, Taylor is focused on maintaining her health so she can show up as the best version of herself for her family.

📝 Words To Live By
Vulnerability creates Community; 100% of the time.

Early Life
Born and raised in Yorba Linda, California, until the age of eleven, Taylor spent her most formative childhood years in Sugar Land, Texas. She experienced her Texas community as bold, unafraid, and welcoming, with a diverse culture where nearby Cajun influences made life feel fun, wacky, and exciting. Growing up as an active, athletic kid, she played softball until she was fourteen before joining her high school's color guard team, eventually winning a state championship alongside her teammates. Her early life was grounded in close friendships and simple, meaningful experiences—whether volunteering with her church to feed and sit with the local unhoused population or spending her senior prom weekend camping on the beach in her best friend's F350 truck and rediscovering the spot where their church group used to clean the shoreline. Those years instilled a lasting lesson that still guides her clinical presence today: you never truly know what is happening behind closed doors in someone else's life, so you must bring kindness to everyone you meet. Fascinated by the intricacies of the mind and how pain or success can shape a person's path, Taylor knew by her junior year of high school that she wanted to work in behavioral health. Having felt how difficult it was in her own life to find a space to share without acting like everything was okay all the time, she strives to provide that space for everyone she crosses paths with.
Education & Training
Taylor began her higher education in Nacogdoches—the oldest town in Texas—where she earned her Bachelor of Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University. As a first-generation college student, she participated in the university's Generation Jacks program, developing the academic and professional skills needed to navigate college and build a lasting career. She later relocated to Idaho to attend Boise State University, where she earned her Master of Arts in Counseling. During her graduate training, Taylor completed her clinical internships across two complementary settings: supporting developmentally disabled clients at Visions Counseling & Education and working with individuals navigating addiction at Brick House Recovery. While no single moment prepared her for the realities of behavioral health, a lifelong heart for the developmentally disabled population and underserved communities solidified her dedication through multiple life experiences. Drawing on a standard of discipline forged through years of youth softball and high school color guard—where her team marched at football halftime shows, competed nationwide, and won state to qualify for a worldwide winter competition—Taylor views clinical growth much like learning to ride a bike. Even when the work feels scary or brings bumps and bruises at first, consistent practice allows a person to eventually cruise with the wind.
"My Vision for the Treasure Valley is a home that truly supports others in need without judgement or needing something in return to justify helping. Genuine connection and resource sharing can create the most successful environment for all involved."
Visions Journey
Before joining Visions Counseling & Education in November 2021, Taylor gained foundational field knowledge as an undergraduate intern learning practical lessons she still utilizes today. From the moment Felica and her husband interviewed her, Taylor knew the Visions mission was the right fit; the laughter, welcoming atmosphere, and genuine passion in the room matched everything she hoped to find in a career. She further solidified her clinical roots during her graduate internships with Visions and Brick House Recovery, where she learned that simply showing up as her authentic self is the most impactful thing she can offer a client. Relying on her own lived experiences to share compassion and understanding, Taylor actively pushes back against the traditional clinical standard that expects counselors not to be emotive. She believes hiding her emotions does more harm than good, whereas authentic emotional expression helps clients regulate, feel understood, build connection, and see healthy emotional modeling in action.

Beyond Visions
Looking ahead, Taylor is working toward earning her clinical license so she can serve as a supervisor for counseling interns, while also pursuing certification through the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to better service the population of people who struggle with addiction. In her day-to-day practice this year, she has focused on sharpening her administrative efficiency to complete clinical paperwork more effectively—a milestone she is close to mastering. Her ultimate career goal is to help de-stigmatize mental health services across the community while providing open, fully informed resources for those in need. Outside the office, Taylor is dedicated to reclaiming her physical health following a diabetes diagnosis, prioritizing regular exercise, a balanced diet, time with family and friends, and long-term crocheting projects she has been steadily crafting. For Taylor, Visions is the ideal environment in the Treasure Valley because of the genuine excitement shared over every client and clinician success, no matter how small. Supported by open communication and encouragement from both her coworkers and leadership, she finds that the clinic's culture prevents burnout and fuels an infectious passion that directly benefits the people she serves.
